Why I Write
Why do I like to write?
The impulse-response there is “I dunno really.” A pause, a hesitation, a nervous laugh.
But I like to write because I’ve always loved to read and at a certain point, I decided well hey, I wanna do that too. I recall, quite dramatically, writing at a young(er) age that I wanted to learn how to play the heartstrings as an instrument. I wanted to write to evoke emotion, to create catharsis, in the same ways that I sought out and felt and experienced in what I read.
I started off wanting to write a novel. I still do, but I’ve accepted that I’m not at a place or within a mindset to do so yet, so that’s simmering on the back-burner. But I accepted and was glad to realize based in that, that I wanted, really wanted, to write all the time. I’m a chronic notes-app fellow. I’ve got quite the messy google drive. It’s all over the place, all of it: random dialogue, description, dynamics, poetry, venting, journaling, memorializing, experimenting.

There are a few focused areas. Early NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) attempts (best shot has been about 25k words). The Flash Dash Summer that got me addicted to flash- and micro-fiction. The winter semester where I was so so excited to take my first official creative writing course at university and I dabbled in personal essays, short stories, and poetry. My brain is one overflowing box of thoughts and I keep it all on main, so lots and lots of things filled in any gaps though. If I am ever not writing, please do check in, because I must not be me anymore.
Which all brings us to this, to you, to visiting this site and reading my words. I’m currently a junior at the University of Michigan and this year I had the privilege of focusing my writing attention once more via WRI 220 aka the Gateway into the Writing Minor course. With our genre explorations, our supportive environment (super shout-out and kudos to Shelley forever), and our experiments, I have found myself here. Thanks for stopping by :)
